Spellgs is a free directory of Magic: The Gathering stores and Commander nights, operated by Arcanum LLC ("we", "us"). You can browse the whole site without giving us anything. We collect a small amount of information only when you fill in a form. We don't sell it, we don't run ads or ad trackers, and we don't set cookies.
The short version
- Browsing: no accounts, no cookies, no analytics or advertising scripts. Our host (Vercel) keeps standard server logs, like any website host.
- Forms: we keep what you type, plus a scrambled, one-way code of your IP address for spam limits. We never store your raw IP address.
- Your location (if you tap "Near me") stays in your browser. It isn't sent to us.
- Deletion: send a privacy request and we'll delete your information.
What we collect, and why
| When you… | We collect | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Sign up for the newsletter | Email address, the city you're interested in (optional), and which page you signed up on | To send the weekly Commander-nights email for your area |
| Submit a store or an update | Store details you enter, a source link, notes, your email if you choose to give it | To check and add the store; to contact you only if we have a question |
| Claim a store listing (store owners/staff) | Your name, role, email, store details, hours, amenities, notes, and any photos you upload | To verify the listing and show store-confirmed details on it |
| Send an "I played here" report | Your answers and optional note; optional email; your browser type; how long the form took | To publish approved reports (answers, note and dates only) and to catch spam and fake reports |
| Use the contact form | Your name, email, topic and message (plus, for copyright notices, your address, phone and signature) | To answer you and act on your request. Copyright notices may be forwarded to the person who posted the material, as the DMCA requires. |
| Use "Report this" on a report | The reason, optional details, optional email | To review the report against our Content Policy |
| Unsubscribe | A one-way hash of your email address or store | So we don't email you again (we don't keep the address itself for this) |
| Any form | A keyed, one-way hash of your IP address and a timestamp | Rate limits that stop spam. Counters are deleted automatically after about 31 days without use. |
We never publish emails, IP hashes, browser info or anything else you didn't write for the public. Only the parts of a report that the form says are public (your answers, your note, the dates) appear on the site, and only after a person approves them.
Photos
Store photos are uploaded only through a store's private claim link. Originals are stored privately until we review them. Approved photos are re-encoded and resized before they go public, and that removes hidden metadata (EXIF), including any GPS location and camera details. Store owners can ask us to remove a photo at any time.
On your device
If you tap "Near me" or enter a ZIP, your browser may save that spot in its local storage so the next visit starts near you. It stays on your device; clear it any time by clearing site data. We don't use cookies, fingerprinting, or cross-site tracking.
Who else handles data
We use a few service providers to run the site. They process data for us, not for their own advertising.
- Vercel hosts the site and our private file storage (Vercel Blob), where form submissions are kept. Like any host, Vercel processes your IP address and request details to serve pages and keep the service secure. We have not turned on Vercel Web Analytics or Speed Insights.
- beehiiv sends our newsletter and stores subscriber emails, city interest and signup page. beehiiv may measure email opens and clicks. See beehiiv's privacy policy.
- Instantly sends our emails to game stores about claiming their listing. Those go only to business addresses that stores publish themselves (in the Wizards Play Network store locator or on the store's own website), along with the store name and city. Open and click tracking are turned off for these emails.
- Map tiles: our maps load tiles from OpenFreeMap, and the search page map loads tiles from OpenStreetMap and its map script from unpkg.com. As with any image on the web, those servers see your IP address when your browser requests a tile.
- Links you click (Google Maps directions, store websites, Discord) take you to those sites, which have their own policies.
We don't sell personal information, and we don't share it for targeted advertising. We would disclose information only if the law requires it, or to protect people or the site from fraud or abuse.
Emails and unsubscribing (CAN-SPAM)
- Every newsletter has an unsubscribe link, and beehiiv removes you right away.
- Every store-outreach email has an unsubscribe link and a one-click unsubscribe header, or the store can tick "Please don't email this store again" on its claim form. We also honor replies asking us to stop. We process opt-outs within 10 business days, usually much sooner.
- Our emails identify Spellgs, are honest about what they are, and include our mailing address: 1065 SW 8th St #2628, Miami, FL 33130.
How long we keep it
- Newsletter: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it.
- Submissions, claims, reports, flags and photos: as long as they help us keep listings accurate and the site free of abuse, or until you ask us to delete them. A published report can stay up after you ask us to delete your email from it; ask and we'll remove the report too.
- Spam-limit counters: deleted automatically after about 31 days without use.
- Unsubscribe hashes: kept so we keep honoring your opt-out.
Your choices and rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to:
- Know/access what personal information we hold about you;
- Delete it;
- Correct it;
- Opt out of sale or sharing: we don't sell or share personal information for targeted advertising, so there's nothing to opt out of, but you can still ask.
Send a privacy request using the email address you gave us (so we can confirm it's you) and say what you'd like. We reply within 30 days, usually much sooner, and we'll never treat you differently for asking. These are the rights California's privacy law (CCPA/CPRA) and similar state laws describe, and we offer them to everyone.
Children
Spellgs isn't directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you think a child under 13 has sent us information, send us a privacy request and we'll delete it.
Security
Submissions are kept in private storage that isn't publicly reachable. Admin access needs a secret key, and store claim links are signed. No system is perfectly secure, so please don't put sensitive information in free-text fields.
Spellpods
Our pod-finder, Spellpods, has its own short privacy notice.
Changes and contact
If we change this policy we'll update the date at the top, and for meaningful changes we'll say so on the site. Questions or requests: use our contact form, or write to us by mail: Arcanum LLC (Spellgs), 1065 SW 8th St #2628, Miami, FL 33130.
